Running is a lot of things to a lot of people. Over the past couple of days, this is the list of things that came to mind when I thought about what running is to me.

  • Community
  • Self-esteem
  • Confidence
  • Meditation
  • Time for myself
  • Stress relief
  • Escape
  • Social
  • Inspiration
  • My future
  • A lifestyle, not a hobby
  • Spiritual
  • Transcendent
  • Painful
  • Family
  • Weight loss
  • Shoes
  • Colorful
  • Natural
  • Self-expression
  • Fun
  • Healing
  • Discipline
  • Medicine
  • Rolling a natural 20 on a saving throw
  • Adventure
  • Exploration
  • Sight-seeing
  • Getting the Blue Shell when you’re in second place
  • Connection
  • Relaxation
  • What I do
  • What defines me
  • What gets me up in the morning and into bed at night
  • How I can help others
  • How I can help myself
  • What pushes me
  • What challenges me
  • What saved my life
  • What keeps me alive

What is running to you?

It’s interesting how you list “community” yet for me running has always been a form of escapism and chance to be alone. I’ve been running as a recreation for the past 5 years and I have to say it has helped me a lot in terms of health and weight loss – but also given me a chance to sort my life a bit.

I agree with Jon…running is my escape time. Me time.

In a race, it’s me versus myself…how hard can I push myself?

    Missing your blog posts BJ!
